Three unemployed Waitara men who allegedly kidnapped a security guard and forced him to take them to McDonald's for a feed have appeared in court.

Tyrone Leigh Harrison, 20, Tenapi Crean, 21, and Gary James Archibald, 21, face a joint charge of unlawfully detaining the guard under duress on February 1.

Police allege the three forced the man to drive them from Waitara to New Plymouth to get McDonald's takeaways and then take them home again.

The three accused were remanded on strict bail conditions until next month for a committal date.

What do you think of Maori trying to restrict access to the breakwater?

It's a ridiculous move and won't help.

Good on them for standing up for themselves.

It's a non-issue since they can't fully cut off access.

Don't know, don't care
