Fire brigades had to hose down a section of State Highway 3 yesterday after a trailer overturned, spilling cows and excrement on the road.

Emergency services were called to the crash 2 kilometres south of Patea at 3.51pm and found a truck's trailer unit blocking one lane of the road.

Hawera Police Sergeant Sandy Shaw said the truck was still upright and the driver suffered no injuries, but 20 of the cattle were found to have minor abrasions and injuries when checked out by a vet.

She said one lane of the road was closed until 4.30pm when a crane arrived to remove the trailer.

Investigations into the cause of the crash were ongoing, she said.

Will Aaron Cruden's omission hurt or help the All Blacks?

Hurt - he needs as much game time as possible.

Help - finally Beauden Barrett will get a proper run.

Hmmm - no biggie, just a temporary hitch.

Who is Cruden? I support the All Whites.
