Stratford firefighters have got a vegetation fire near Cardiff under control.

A scrub fire in central Taranaki is under control thanks to the efforts of Stratford firefighters.

The vegetation fire on Brookes Rd, near Cardiff, was reported about 3pm.

Central fire communications shift manager Murray Dunbar said one appliance and a tanker had been dispatched to the scene and the blaze was close to being put out.

He said about 100 metres of vegetation had caught fire but no buildings or other property were in the vicinity.
