Greens announce Nicola Patrick as candidate for Whanganui

Nicola Patrick has been selected as the Green Party candidate for the Whanganui electorate.

Nicola Patrick has been selected as Whanganui's Green Party candidate in the 2017 general election.

Patrick, 44, is Horizons Regional Councillor, has an environmental science degree and a journalism diploma and writes a newspaper column.
 
 "My priorities are action on climate change, freshwater and fairness," a statement attributed to Patrick said.

"I'm honoured to be representing the Green Party in Whanganui and South Taranaki."

Patrick said she would not be seeking a place on the Green Party list and was committed to remaining in Whanganui and continuing to serve the community as a regional councillor.
 
Ms Patrick said she still felt extreme sadness over the recent death of Green Party member Chris Cresswell on December 31 and his loss to the Whanganui community and beyond.

Dr Cresswell had expressed interest in being a candidate and the two had planned to work closely together.
 
Ms Patrick's employment background includes 10 years at Department of Conservation, including operational leadership at Ruapehu, seven years at global engineering consultancy AECOM as a project manager and sustainability advisor, and 18 months recently at social enterprise charity Akina Foundation.

She currently works part-time for Te Kaahui o Rauru at Waverley.
