Four cars were damaged in an afternoon of motorised mayhem in central New Plymouth.
An out-of-control driver rear-ended a silver car at 3.20pm at the Devon St East and Liardet St intersection on Saturday.
An elderly man got out of his car to inspect the damage and speak to the offender, who refused to get out of the car, according to a witness.
The older man got back in his car and drove off.
The offender then drove down Leach St and sideswiped a gold-coloured Ford station wagon outside Simpson's Tyres.
He then headed towards Spotswood, driving erratically and crossing the centreline, Senior Constable Jason Koch said.
He sideswiped another vehicle at the intersection of Lawry St and Devon St West.
The offender finally came to a stop when he collided with a car on Barrett Rd, immobilising his own vehicle and police apprehended him.
Police wish to hear from the owners of the damaged cars, and any witnesses.
The offender was driving a white Mazda 3 hatchback signwritten with a company name.
Police are waiting on blood test results to determine whether alcohol was a factor.
