Police are asking for information after an arson in Henwood Rd this morning.
A house and four vehicles were extensively damaged in the fire.
Detective Louise Prendergast said the CIB is investigating the cause of the blaze.
"We are seeking to identify a maroon coloured SUV type vehicle which was seen in the area at the time of the fire."
She said there was no power connected to the address and it was unclear whether the proprety was inhabited.
New Plymouth fire senior station officer Ian Drewery said the fire near Hillsbrough Hall at the intersection of Henwood and Egmont roads, was reported about 6.15am.
"We were called out to cars on fire alongside the hall. From the smoke we could see it was pretty obvious there was a big fire."
The house was about 250 metres away from the hall and was burning furiously.
Mr Drewery said two fire crews and the West volunteer fire brigade used their biggest hoses to extinguish the flames.
"It was lucky there was a water supply, a hydrant right there, usually out in the country there's not."
He said no people had been around when emergency services arrived and a check of the property found nobody inside.
