A New Plymouth jury has found a Hawera teenager not guilty of raping a woman last year but guilty of attempting to violate her.
Following the four-day trial in the New Plymouth District Court, Kauri John Bowman, 18, was found guilty on two charges of attempted sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection.
The jury returned not guilty verdicts for rape, sexual violation and indecent assault. The two guilty verdicts were on alternatively laid charges.
Bowman had denied the charges, involving the same female victim in Hawera on October 4.
Judge John Macdonald convicted Bowman and called for a pre- sentence report before sentencing on October 21. Bowman was also given his first strike warning under the three strikes legislation.
