Hawera redesign in the pipeline - mayor
South Taranaki mayoral hopefuls may be promising residents a revitalised Hawera town centre, but incumbent mayor Ross Dunlop says the council already has it covered.
Mayoral contenders Selwyn Metcalfe and Henry Kerehoma have told voters their vision for Hawera was one where businesses flourished and the town was prosperous.
But the South Taranaki District Council already had in place an urban design plan for Hawera, Mr Dunlop said.
"At a design project workshop on Wednesday, the council agreed in principle to set aside budget for an urban plan designer and begin community engagement," Mr Dunlop said.
Mr Dunlop said the plan would need to be "an all-encompassing" 10-to-15-year plan that would set Hawera up for the "next 40 years".
Bizlink Hawera made a submission to the council's 2013-14 annual plan supporting the urban design plan.
