An initiative aimed at increasing the number of Maori in work is the biggest winner of TSB Community Trust's latest grants.
The Whakatipuranga Rima Rau project, which was launched in 2010, received $150 000 in funding.
The project aims to get 500 Maori into the health and disability workforce over the next 10 years.
Te Whare Punanga Korero Trust, which represents the eight iwi of Taranaki, works alongside the Taranaki District Health Board and the Work and Income division of the Ministry of Social Development to administer the employment programme.
Operations manager Tanya Anaha was delighted to receive the grant.
It was the first time the organisation had secured funding for more than one year rather than applying each year.
"We can now strategically plan in advance," she said.
The programme is working with 174 secondary students throughout Taranaki.
It offers pastoral support and mentoring during their study until they are able to find employment.
Two other groups had received $100 000 or more in funds to assist with their various projects.
The New Plymouth District Council's Festival of Lights was allocated $110,000 to assist with costs associated with the On Stage and Summer Scene entertainment programmes, lighting and special feature installations.
The Bishops Action Foundation, New Plymouth, was granted $100,000 to assist them with the development and co-ordination of capacity building opportunities across Taranaki.
In total, the TSB Community Trust paid out grants totalling $647,761 to 72 different organisations and individuals in its sixth round of funding for the 2013/14 financial year.
Applications for grants under $50,000 are considered monthly and can be submitted any time between February and November.
