Police, firefighters and an ambulance headed to the top of Frankley Rd on Friday to investigate a suspected P-lab.
Despite extensive searches no P-lab was found, Detective Sergeant Pat Duffy said.
The emergency services response was kicked off after a man told neighbours he had been poisoned.
As a result of the investigation, police arrested a 42-year-old New Plymouth man for possession of methamphetamine (also known as P) and a meth pipe, Mr Duffy said.
He is to appear in the New Plymouth District Court on Wednesday.
