Cr Chong responds: It has come to my attention that a few people are suggesting that I will not follow through with a promise that I gave during my campaign.
I stated that I would not be accepting the 14 per cent pay rise that councillors would receive this year and would only be accepting 6 per cent as that is 2 per cent over the three-year period.
The other 8 per cent net difference was going to be donated this year to a well- known local charity.
Of course I am going to keep this promise. You will all find out in due time who this charity will be once I personally inform the charity myself.
It would be nice if a few other councillors and CEOs around the country do the same sort of thing when they find out their remuneration increases are higher than normal ratepayer income inflation increases.
