A 13-year-old boy was flown to hospital with serious spinal injuries after a dive went wrong this morning.

The Taranaki Community Rescue Helicopter was called to Urenui at 9:10am and airlifted the boy directly to Middlemore Hospital in Auckland.

A St John spokesman said the boy had dived into the water and hit his head around 8:55am.

What do you think of Maori trying to restrict access to the breakwater?

It's a ridiculous move and won't help.

Good on them for standing up for themselves.

It's a non-issue since they can't fully cut off access.

Don't know, don't care
