Poet's Bridge in New Plymouth's Pukekura Park has been closed to the public due to vandalism.
In the early hours of Saturday morning hooligans broke parts of a lighting installation on the bridge that was being set up for the Festival of Lights which opens this weekend.
The bridge was closed to the public as a precaution, park curator Chris Connolly told the Taranaki Daily News.
''Somebody has come through in the early hours of Saturday morning and have broken about six of them,'' Mr Connolly said.
''It's very disappointing because the guys are working very hard to get it open for next weekend.''
Mr Connolly said there was a small number of people who were ruining things for the rest of the public.
Security at the park could be increased in an attempt to curb the vandalism, he said.
