A 19-year-old Inglewood man will appear in the New Plymouth District Court today after allegedly stealing a taxi at knifepoint last night.
The taxi driver called police in a distressed state from the side of the road about 9.20pm after his cab was stolen.
Police recovered the stolen taxi on the outskirts of New Plymouth about an hour later and arrested the man.
Detective Sergeant Gerard Bouterey said the alleged offender had been charged with aggravated robbery and further charges were likely.
Police recovered the weapon used in the robbery in the cab.
Mr Bouterey said the taxi driver was not injured.
