I kea for you. Happy birthday tui you. I love you like no otter. Gopher it!

Christchurch pun enthusiast and animal lover Mirabel Oliver has found the perfect outlet - the humble greeting card.

The 28-year-old fine arts graduate works in a Christchurch shop by day and dreams up greeting card designs in her spare time.

It started with a card she made for a friend's birthday: "You are deer to me."

Once she started thinking of animal puns she could not stop.

"Just the other day I was going to a thanksgiving party and 'Happy Thanksgibbon' just popped into my head'. I will keep going until I run out of puns."

Oliver adheres to a strict policy with Google searches completely off limits.

"There are a lot of animal puns out there. I want to try and think of really unusual ones," she said.

"Thanx-a-lotl" seemed to be the most popular, probably because "no- one has ever seen an axolotl on a greeting card".

Oliver's cards - branded All Your Stars Are Out - are stocked in shops in Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown and Christchurch and also sold online.

And her latest?

"Merry Christmouse." Fairfax NZ

What do you think of Maori trying to restrict access to the breakwater?

It's a ridiculous move and won't help.

Good on them for standing up for themselves.

It's a non-issue since they can't fully cut off access.

Don't know, don't care
