An Auckland man is in a serious but stable condition in Waikato Hospital after a motorcycle crash in the Awakino Gorge on Friday night.
The man, who is in his 50s lost control of his Kawasaki motorcycle on a corner and slid into a ditch.
He suffered back, chest and shoulder injuries and was transported at about 7.30pm to Waikato Hospital by the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter.
Constable Daniel Walter of Mokau Police said the man had only purchased the motorcycle that day and was on his way home to Auckland.
Mr Walter said the cause of the accident would be investigated but weather was not considered to be a factor and no other vehicles were involved.
