Wanted Stratford man Matthew Joao Edwards in now in custody after he was arrested by armed police yesterday.
The 22-year-old was tracked down at a rural Wanganui property, Detective Drew Bennett said.
Edwards is to appear at the Wanganui District Court today where police intend opposing his release.
Edwards had warrants out for his arrest on charges including wounding with intent, injuring with intent, aggravated burglary and driving while disqualified.
Then last Wednesday while on the run, Edwards is alleged to have burgled two properties and stolen a dark blue Nissan Torana 4X4.
A police chase followed about 10pm that night when Edwards allegedly took off in the stolen vehicle near Eltham when police tried to speak to him.
As a result Edwards is also charged with driving while disqualified and failing to stop for police.
Last week when police asked for information as to where Edwards might be, the public was warned not to approach him but to ring 111 immediately.
Today, Mr Bennett said Edwards' arrest by armed police came as a result of information from the public.
The people Edwards was staying with were not facing charges, Mr Bennett said.
A 17-year-old believed to be accompanying Edwards was arrested last week and is also charged with the burglaries.
