LATEST: Four Christmas tree thieves who chopped down a big decorated tree and drove off with it before losing it in the middle of Waitara have been offered diversion.

The tree was spotted on CCTV being driven through the township on the back of a ute and it was found near a roundabout in the town.

The men charged with the theft, from Santa's Choice Christmas Trees almost two weeks ago, appeared in the Registrars Court in New Plymouth yesterday. None have previous convictions.

If diversion requirements, such as reparation and apologies, are carried out to police satisfaction the four will escape convictions.

Will Aaron Cruden's omission hurt or help the All Blacks?

Hurt - he needs as much game time as possible.

Help - finally Beauden Barrett will get a proper run.

Hmmm - no biggie, just a temporary hitch.

Who is Cruden? I support the All Whites.
