A 27-year-old man has today been arrested and charged with the arson of CareFirst medical centre and pharmacy in Westown, New Plymouth.

Extensive damage was caused to the building on Tukapa St after a fire in two air conditioning units early on Wednesday spread into the roof space.

Detective Sergeant Gerard Bouterey said the man was identified as a result of assistance from the public.

The man will appear in the New Plymouth District Court this afternoon.

What do you think of Maori trying to restrict access to the breakwater?

It's a ridiculous move and won't help.

Good on them for standing up for themselves.

It's a non-issue since they can't fully cut off access.

Don't know, don't care
