A Hawera man was sent to prison for tax evasion when he appeared in the Hawera District Court yesterday.

Roger Dennis Brown, in his 50s, had earlier pleaded guilty to four charges and would have avoided jail if he had paid the outstanding reparation of $24,035.56.

Instead he was jailed for nine months by Judge Allan Roberts.

Brown also had previous dishonesty convictions.

An order was made for the reparation to be paid.

What do you think of NZC's decision not to host T20 at Pukekura Park?

Typical. Always overlooked in favour of the big smoke

Just shows what a waste of time paying for those nets was

Gutted. T20 at the Park is a new summer tradition

Good call. NZC's got to pay those bills

Pleased. T20 is a bastardized version of the game. Bring on the one-dayers

I hate cricket. Watching grass grow is preferable
