A dangerous rockface overhanging State Highway 3 on Mt Messenger has been successfully removed.
Roading contractors expect to finish cleaning up tomorrow and normal traffic flow will resume.
''The contractors have made fantastic progress and the work is substantially complete,'' New Zealand Transport Agency regional roads manager David McGonigal said.
Only minor clean-up work was left to do.
''Tomorrow we'll be inspecting the site, and if we're satisfied that the rockface is secure then the concrete blocks will be removed,'' Mr McGonigal said
