Thieves have stolen cash that was destined for Taranaki charities.

Burglars broke into a shipping container at the Inglewood Lions Club's maize maze overnight on Saturday and made off with the previous day's takings.

Maize maze chairman George Buchanan said the club had been naive leaving the money on site and had now changed its systems.

Police were called and wanted to hear from anyone who had information about the burglary or saw anything suspicious in the Lower Norfolk Rd area between 10pm on Saturday and 9am on Sunday.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
