New Plymouth fine dining restaurant The Garlic Press has closed its doors.

A post on the restaurant's Facebook page announced the closure of the Devon St West eatery.

''Unfortunately The Garlic Press has reached a stage where it is unable to continue operations and is now closed down permanently,'' it said.

''Thank you to all those who supported us over the last four and a half years, it's been a blast.''

The Garlic Press, owned by Michael Williamson, had won a number of awards, including Outstanding Restaurant at the Halamoana Hospitality Awards in 2011 and a 2010 New Zealand Beef and Lamb Excellence award.
