A 61-year-old woman was airlifted from Tongariro National Park by the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter at midday yesterday.

The woman had fallen and injured her shoulder on the Tongariro Crossing track near the blue lake, a rescue helicopter spokesman said.

She was taken to Rotorua hospital in a stable condition.

The Taranaki Rescue Helicopter attended the accident as the Taupo helicopter was unavailable at the time.
