Thieves are targeting the cars of people out for a stroll on the beach.

Senior Sergeant Allan Whaley said nine cars were broken into around the Centennial Dr - Back Beach area in the most recent spate.

''It's the same areas that are usually targeted during the fine weather when people are leaving their cars and going for a walk along the beach,'' Mr Whaley said.

He urged people to call police if they saw anything suspicious or to take down the registration of suspicious cars.
