Tanker convoy pays respects
Tankers form funeral processionISOBEL EWING
A fleet of Fonterra tankers took a break from collecting milk at the weekend to form a funeral procession.
The convoy of 34 tankers from Whareroa drove past Taiporohenui Marae where former employee Puna Kumeroa lay in state.
Fonterra mechanic Chris Garrett, who filmed the procession on his phone, said it was a gesture of respect to Mr Kumeroa and his family.
Regional general manager Scott Walls said Mr Kumeroa had been part of the Fonterra family, working in milk collection. "It was a bit of a gesture by his colleagues to honour him." Mr Kumeroa's brother Joe said the convoy was a nice gesture.
Mr Kumeroa's funeral was on Tuesday.
