Manawatu farmers dominated the Taranaki/Manawatu regional final of the ANZ Young Farmer Contest.

The contest, at New Plymouth's Yarrow Stadium on Saturday, was won by Brad Lewis, a member of Manawatu's Opiki Club.

Marton's Peter Fitz-Herbert was second and Midhirst's Roger Dettling of Central Taranaki Club, who was the winner of the Agri-Sport Challenge, pipped Alton Club's Liam Richardson for third.

Dettling, 26, was pleased to have built on his eighth placing from last year and to have taken out the agri-sport section of the contest.

Dettling said he had "a bit to work on" for next year's competition.

The regional final's convenor, Paul Duynhoven, said Saturday's event was a success.

"We got some great feedback about the venue and there was a good turnout of spectators."

Should NPDC sell its Tasman farms?

Yes, and use the money for local projects.

No, the farms are a good long-term investment.

Sell a portion of them.

Not sure.

Don't care either way.
