A woman has been taken to hospital after her van crashed and narrowly missed plunging over an 8 metre cliff this morning.
The woman was travelling north on State Highway 45 with a passenger when she lost control of her vehicle near Lower Timaru Rd at 9am.
The van crossed the centre line, smashed through a fence and rolled on its side stopping on a ledge just short of an 8m drop.
The woman was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Senior constable Keith Bromley said police were investigating and wet road conditions may have been a factor.
He said it was a reminder to drivers to take care on wet roads and drive to the conditions.
