Fire raged through a pine plantation on Soldiers Rd, Tututawa in East Taranaki yesterday afternoon, with helicopters needed to put it out.
Ground crew from the Rural Fire Service were back on site this morning, but the fire is under control, principal rural fire officer Nigel Dravitzki said.
''There are a few hot spots, but because it's quite misty out there it's difficult to tell.''
An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire, and it hasn't been established how many hectares were affected.
The rural fire service was called at 3.37pm after two fire appliances from Stratford and one from Toko attended the blaze, Mr Dravitzki said.
''We deployed two helicopters. The majority was done by Alan Beck initially and then we tried to get some more water on there before dusk so Helipro came up from Palmerston North to give us a hand.''
Mr Dravitzki will be going back to the site of the fire this afternoon to continue the investigation.
