Seven arrested in Sunday scrap
A brawl outside a Hawera bar kept police on their toes over the long weekend.
Senior Sergeant Mike Hannah said support from New Plymouth, Stratford and Opunake police had to be called on to assist with an ''outbreak of disorder'' outside Barries Restaurant and Sports Bar on Hawera's Princes St in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Barrie's director Jeff Orr said he was at the bar on the night and saw the incident which had spilled over from another bar.
He said his patrons had not been involved.
As a result, seven people - six men and one woman - were arrested and are due to appear in the Hawera District Court today.
They face a variety of charges including obstruction, assaulting police, common assault and disorderly behaviour.
Mr Hannah said police were still investigating the incident and further arrests may be made.
In what Mr Hannah described as a ''busy weekend'' several other arrests were also made.
A 43-year-old Manaia woman was arrested on Friday night for presenting a restricted weapon.
On Saturday, a 45-year-old Hawera woman was arrested for breaching a court order.
And on Sunday three arrests were made - a 38-year-old Hawera female for domestic assault, a 45-year-old Hawera man for assault and a 22-year-old male for receiving.
