Four vehicles crashed on State Highway 3 on Mt Messenger and in the Awakino Gorge in the space of two hours yesterday.

The first incident happened about 3.30pm when a vehicle travelling on the north side of Mt Messenger lost control, crossed the centre line and rolled down a bank, Constable Rob Keen said.

The vehicle came to a rest 100 metres off the road and the driver was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital by St John ambulance.

The second accident was at 4pm when a vehicle descending Mt Messenger lost control at the bottom of the hill, spun across the lane and rested on its side in a ditch, Mr Keen said. The two passengers were transferred to Taranaki Base Hospital by St John ambulance.

The next incident involved a driver who was following in a line of traffic and lost control after braking heavily, rolling the vehicle down a bank.

The final incident was about 5.30pm at Awakino Gorge. A vehicle lost control and ended up in a ditch.

The drivers from the second two incidents were uninjured.

Do you have faith in police solving burglaries?

Yes - there's no faulting their commitment.

Mostly, but they are under-resourced.

Sort of - depends on when and where.

Not really - clearly a low priority for them.

Absolutely not.

Not sure - luckily I've never been burgled.
