The court hearing for a New Plymouth woman charged with killing a young man walking along the highway has been postponed.

Kylee Denise Wallace, 37, was charged with drink-driving causing the death of Wiremu Thompson, 19, of Bell Block about 5am on Sunday February 2.

The fatality occurred beside Big Jim's Garden Centre on State Highway 3.

Police said at the time Mr Thompson and a friend were walking along the highway on their way to Bell Block after attending a party in Waitara.

The case before the New Plymouth District Court was adjourned this week to allow time for completion of the Serious Crash Unit report.

It is expected to be back before the court in May.

At her first appearance on February 5, Wallace was remanded on bail and ordered not to contact the dead man's family.
