An ambulance was called to the New Plymouth courthouse just before mid-day today after a man in custody injured himself.

Senior Sergeant Robbie O'Keefe said a 27-year-old man, waiting to appear on driving charges, was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital by St John ambulance for medical treatment.
