A beachfront house has sold for $1.85 million - a record price for a residential New Plymouth property.
The Fitzroy beach house, at 1-23a Hamblyn St, was sold to a local buyer by Harcourts' Jack Kurta late last month.
"Its location is one of the best in town," Kurta said.
The estate agent said the house's beach access could never be built out.
This was the highest price a house had been sold at in New Plymouth, but Kurta said he expected another house to sell for even more soon.
He said both the buyer and seller of the property wished to remain anonymous.
In March last year an Oakura house was sold by TSB Realty agent Beau Burmester for $1.8m, a then record price for a Taranaki residential property.
According to Quotable value New Zealand, the average house price in the New Plymouth District was $348,467 in March this year.
This was 5.7 per cent higher than March 2013's average price of $329,690.
In 2010 the Hamblyn St property's capital value was $1.15m. The land was valued at $550,000.
