A New Plymouth woman has won $250,000 with Lotto First Division.
The woman had just finished her grocery shopping when she decided to check an old Lotto ticket she'd had tucked in her handbag for several weeks.
"I didn't really think anything of it - you never think you're actually going to win," she said.
She bought the ticket at Merrilands New World.
"When I first found out I was in complete shock! But now that the prize is in my account, it's beginning to sink in - and I've begun planning how I will spend it," she said.
To celebrate, she took her mother out for dinner and shopping - but she's got bigger plans for the rest of the prize.
"Top of the list is purchasing my own home - I can't wait to start house hunting."
"This win has come at a great time. Now I can relax with the knowledge that life will be a little more comfortable - and fun - in the future!"
The Lotto First Division jackpot of $1 million was shared by four Lotto players in Pukekohe, New Plymouth, Dunedin and Invercargill.
