A fire at a Stratford solicitor's office is being treated as suspicious.
Fire brigades were called to Thomson O'Neil & Co on Fenton St at 12:15am on Sunday.
The fire was set under the building and police were talking to a ''person of interest'', Stratford chief fire officer Tony Foley said.
Two fire engines responded from Stratford, but after fire crews entered the building, which was full of smoke, appliances from Toko and Eltham were called in.
''We had to search for the fire. There was a lot of smoke, but initially we couldn't find the source.''
They also had to gain access into neighbouring buildings, after it was feared the smoke came from next door.
However, fire crews found the source under the solicitor's building, he said.
''There was only smoke damage. It was nothing too major. Lucky we found it before it got too out of hand. It could have been a nasty one.''
