A South Taranaki District Council employee has been charged with unlawfully entering the home of a former mayoral candidate.

Police allege Hamish Gerrard Stevenson, 42, entered Hawera's Black and White Cafe without authority and with the intent to commit a crime on April 6.

Three days later he was allegedly found at the Hira St home of Henry Kerehoma without reasonable excuse.

In the Hawera District Court yesterday, Judge Allan Roberts remanded Stevenson on bail without plea to reappear on April 29, and ordered him not to contact the complainants.

Do you have faith in police solving burglaries?

Yes - there's no faulting their commitment.

Mostly, but they are under-resourced.

Sort of - depends on when and where.

Not really - clearly a low priority for them.

Absolutely not.

Not sure - luckily I've never been burgled.
