SmileHigh
Because the Taranaki Daily News believes in the great work people from our province do, web producer and photographer Mike Scott is heading to Nepal to document the aid work Dr Julian Haszard and the organisation he founded - SmileHigh.
The organisation runs dental clinics in remote areas of Nepal to change the lives of thousands of children who have poor oral health. SmileHigh operates in the spirit of Dr Fred Hollows, who restored the sight of thousands, and of Sir Edmund Hillary who worked tirelessly for the Sherpa people of Nepal.
The clinic is being run in the shadow of Himalayan giant Manaslu - eighth highest peak in the world. After completing the clinic Dr Haszard will climb the mountain, with HIMEX, to help raise money and awareness for SmileHigh - it will be his third 8000m peak. Dr Haszard is hoping to raise $27,000 for SmileHigh or $1 for every foot that he climbs on Manaslu.
