The New Plymouth District Council says it has not put any ratepayer money into a future Village People concert.

In response to Layne Rapira (letters, September 11), the staging of the Village People show at TSB Stadium is a purely commercial hire of the venue.

OPINION: No ratepayer funding is going towards this event. All costs are being carried by the promoter.

When it comes to attracting music events, while we work hard to sell the merits of the council's venues we are limited by the acts that are touring and that choose to perform in New Plymouth.

We have a target for commercial hires of TSB Stadium and this concert will help the venue achieve its income budget.
