Felt pens and a creative touch won Rylee Meredith's netball team a set of new uniforms.
The 12-year-old St Joseph's School pupil of Stratford got her creative juices flowing at a Fast 5 Ferns competition at Auckland's Vector Arena in November, which invited pupils to design their own netball uniform.
Rylee beat 636 entries with her kit in grey with pink checks and swirls for the grand prize from Canterbury of NZ.
Sister Gracyn, 15, was also among the five competition finalists.
Rylee said she was just "doodling" when the design took shape and "turned into this", she said.
She was excited about her win, worth $1400, and thought "how cool" it was to be able to win her teammates new gear.
Mum Jo-Anne Edgcombe said she was "stunned" when she saw both her daughters' netball designs flash up on the stadium's big screen.
The family were in Auckland to attend the Fast 5 as a birthday treat for Rylee.
"It was like going to the rugby sevens and it had a very party-like atmosphere," she said.
Edgcombe said both Gracyn and Rylee spent "quite a while" colouring in the designs of their dream netball uniform.
