New Plymouth Old Boys moved to the top of the Taranaki premier rugby table after a 26-16 win over Spotswood United this afternoon.

Two tries from Hayden Patene helped Old Boys to a bonus point win, while Brooke Moses and Liam McBride also crossed.

Spotswood United started slowly and found themselves 13-0 down in the first half before they fought their way back into it.

Their loss drops them down from second to fourth, a position they now share with Clifton and Tukapa.

Previous leaders Coastal lost just their second match of the season when they were upset 18-10 at Inglewood.

Behind 7-6 at the break and playing into a strong wind, Inglewood scored two second half tries while Coastal hooker Mitch Campbell was in the sinbin.

Coastal missed several shots at goal and several dropped kick attempts but made too many mistakes.

Tukapa beat Southern 30-24 in the close match at Sanders Park, while Clifton ran in 10 tries, including a hat-trick to Matiu Welch, to thrash Stratford 60-19 at Victoria Park.

AT A GLANCE

Inglewood 18 Coastal 10

NPOB 26 Spotswood Utd 16

Clifton 60 Stratford 19

Tukapa 30 Southern 24

Is Ma'a Nonu returning to the Hurricanes ...

A great move, he's still world class

Okay for one season, but no more

Depriving a more deserving player of a contract

Great for the All Blacks but of no use to Canes

Hmmm, I'll vote in 12 months' time
