A world champion will be among the fighters stepping into the ring at the Eruption 5 kick boxing tournament at New Plymouth's YMCA tonight.

Sone "The Arch Angel" Vannathy will be in town to give an exhibition bout, event organiser Lance Searancke said.

Vannathy hails from Laos and is a world champion and current King of the Ring winner in his weight category (62kg).

"He will give an exhibition of the variety of skills," Searancke said.

The main fight on the impressive 12-fight card sees Sanchai, of Thailand, take on Jared Leigh, of Palmerston North, in a full Thai contest over five rounds.

Another feature of the night is the bout between Jason Walker, of the United States, who has had 10 fights, and Heremia Palmer, of Whakatane.

Walker is 1.96m and tips the scales at 110kg.

"It's 110kg of hard muscle too," Searancke said.

He said Palmer asked to fight Walker as he wanted to prove himself.

The first fight on the night's programme is scheduled to start at 6.30pm, with the last expected to begin about 11pm. Entry is $20.

Will Aaron Cruden's omission hurt or help the All Blacks?

Hurt - he needs as much game time as possible.

Help - finally Beauden Barrett will get a proper run.

Hmmm - no biggie, just a temporary hitch.

Who is Cruden? I support the All Whites.
