The North Island were too strong for the South Island in two representative indoor bowls fixtures played during the national championships in Rotorua on Wednesday.

The North Island Academy team retained the Sam Henderson Memorial Trophy by beating the South Island Academy 32 to 16. And the Northern Zone Masters beat the Southern Zone Masters to retain the Delwyn Hughes Trophy 32-16.

The contest was played over three matches each in men's and women's singles, pairs, triples and fours. In the Academy contest the North Island women won all four events while the men won the fours, and drew the pairs and triples. The South won the men's singles, drew the pairs and triples.

The Masters event saw the Northern Zone win the women's pairs, triples and fours, and the men's singles, triples and fours. The South Island Masters won the women's singles, and men's pairs. Results scoreboard
