Waitara beat the odds in gymnastics events

Waitara gymnasts competed in both Rotorua and New Plymouth with impressive results against clubs from the upper North Island.

The team of 25 gymnasts won a total of 26 medals and 29 top three apparatus placings. In Step 1 Lahni Kuklinski placed 4th overall. Step 2 under Caitlin Adamson won the silver medal and in the overs division Charlotte Giddy won gold, Josie Potroz silver and Claudia McKillop was placed 4th overall.

The team of Caitlin Adamson, Charlotte Giddy, Josie Potroz and Claudia McKillop won the gold team medal and Ruby Hooper, Amy Witihera, Serenity Pihama and Aleka Wooding won bronze team. In Step 3 Katie Neild won the gold individual medal and Laura Jones bronze and they were joined by team mate Sarah Allen to take team silver. In Step 6 Olivia Eiffe, Taylah Dagg and Vienna McLernon won the bronze team medal with Eiffe placing 5th overall and Dagg 6th. In Step 8, Emma Larsen won bronze overall and silver medals on bar, beam and floor and bronze on vault.

At the Aerobics competition in New Plymouth Ashlee Newman won gold in Step 4 and in Step 8, Dayna Tawa won gold and Rachel Hopkinson silver. Hopkinson and Tawa won gold in the pairs.
