Renee Matoe's return may boost Naumai
"Her presence is amazing."TONY BIRD
Naumai coach Vicki Roberts is hoping the expected return of talented shooter Renee Matoe to the Hawera side will lift her team for their premier one netball game against New Plymouth Old Boys at Hawera tonight.
Matoe was missing from the Naumai lineup last week when the side went down 42-40 to Sacred Heart Girls' College.
"We were disappointed after last week's game when we made a really slow start," said Roberts. "It was 10 minutes into the first quarter before we scored our first goal and that's just not good enough and we were left to play catch up for the rest of the game."
"I take my hat off to the (Sacred Heart) girls. They came prepared," said Roberts."
Naumai is fourth, level with Sacred Heart Girls' College with 10 points on the competition ladder, behind Inglewood (28), Tysons (25) and New Plymouth Old Boys (22).
Roberts said not lifting to another level when they get in a winning position was letting her side down.
"We can do it," she said, adding she was looking forward to the game against Old Boys with Mateo back in the lineup.
"We're hoping to have Renee (Matoe) on court tomorrow night. She lifts the the team a lot, her presence is amazing."
The last time the two teams met, Naumai pushed Old Boys for the first three quarters of the game before going down 55-43.
Meanwhile, Old Boys will be keen to get back on a winning track after going down 55-46 to Tysons last week.
In other games in the round, defending champions Inglewood should be too strong for Sacred Heart. A bonus point for finishing within five points would be good for the school side.
In the late game at Stratford, Tysons should have few problems dispatching bottom-of-the-table Raukura.
Meanwhile, tomorrow night in the premier two competition, Western Suburbs Tigers A+ play Central at Stratford's TET Stadium starting at 6.30pm. Waitara High School meet Locals, at the Hub in Hawera starting at 6.30pm, Hawera Feats play top-of-the-table New Plymouth Girls' High School at the same venue starting at 8pm. In the remaining game Stratford RSC are at home against Western Suburbs Havoc starting at 8pm.
