Manaia golfer Sam Jones won the North Taranaki under-19 boys' title at the Fitzroy course in New Plymouth yesterday with two rounds of 65 for a six-under par total of 130.
Runner-up was Matt Morris from St Andrews in Hamilton with rounds of 68 and 66.
New Plymouth's Alex Lundt won the under-15 title with rounds of 69 and 76 to finish nine over par, and Auckland's Sul Im shot rounds of 76 and 75.
A playoff between two Auckland players was needed to decide the girls' title. Pakuranga's Rose Zheng and Akarana's Yena Chang both shot rounds of 78 and 71, with Zheng winning with a par three on the first extra hole, the 15th.
The best overall net was won by New Plymouth 17-handicapper Max Shearer with scores of 69 and 61. He won after a countback with Inglewood six handicapper Brad Cottam who had scores of 61 and 69.
The Taranaki and Auckland development teams clash in a matchplay singles event over 36 holes at the Ngamotu links today.
