Inglewood will meet Coastal in next weekend's Taranaki premier rugby final after contrasting play-off matches today.
Fourth qualifier Inglewood had to battle to the very end to see off top qualifier New Plymouth Old Boys 20-15 at Vogeltown Park, while Coastal enjoyed a relatively comfortable 30-8 win over Clifton at Rahotu.
A try from replacement lock Maifea Maifea with four minutes remaining was enough to get Inglewood into the final.
It was a match ruined by the conditions after heavy rain made the Vogeltown Park pitch sodden, with both sides making numerous mistakes, although the defence was impressive.
Old Boys, who finished the regular season as top try scorers, did not manage to get over the line, with all their points coming from the boot of Codey Rei.
In fact, it was the first time Old Boys had failed to score a try this season and was testament to the desperation Inglewood showed to shut them out.
Inglewood co-captain Berny Hall scored the first try of the match after he finished off some nice work by several of the pack.
Old Boys tried desperately to score in the dying minutes but they could not break through the middle or out wide.
Coastal got off to a dream start, with John Julian scoring in the opening minute.
Clifton replied through Sione Lea to narrow the margin to 11-8 at the break but the second half belonged to the home side.
