New Plymouth's Allan Hall won the King of the Beach volleyball title on Sunday.
Hall won by one point from Daryn Lundy to claim his sixth win in the annual event, at the Spotswood College Beach Arena. It was his first win since 2001.
The 2008 winner Nigel Hales finished third.
After a break of many years, 2000 winner Alena Sofeni returned to the sand and claimed the 13th Queen of the Beach title by four points from last year's winner Ashleigh Pearce. Beatrice Petty was third.
The third Princess of the Beach event was won by Ruby Swanson by four points over Brittney Pearce, with Laura Anderson third.
Each event is restricted to eight players who, after pool play, split into top four and bottom four divisions.
Competition in all the division events was close, with all three top-four pools having three of the four players tie for the leading position at the end of play.
This required a points differential countback to determine all positions.
