Opunake student wins bowls title

Opunake High School's Daryl Read won the boys' singles title at the Taranaki secondary schools' bowls tournament at the Avon greens in Stratford on Sunday.
Read finished with four wins in the Shell Todd Oil Services-sponsored event, with Coastal Taranaki's Hamish Hape second with three wins and 56 points. Third was Spotswood College's Corey Hodge with three wins and 55 points.
The girls' singles title was won by Spotswood College's Emily Keenan with two wins, ahead of Hawera High School's Talya Clark.
The boys' pairs was won by Jordon Linn (skip) and Joseph Doyle, from Coastal Taranaki, with four wins and 70 points. Second was Chris Baylis (skip) and Paul Kuklinski, of Hawera High School, with four wins and 49 points. Third was Ryan Terrill (skip) and Isaac Dodunski, of New Plymouth Boys' High School, with three wins.
New Plymouth Girls' High School's Sophia Ockhuysen (skip) and Emma Martin won the girls' pairs title with three wins. Second was Waewae Turahui (skip) and Stacey Grant, from Hawera High School, with two wins. Stratford High School's Kylie Rowlands (skip) and Rebecca Johnston finished third with one win.
The sportsmanship award went to Kyle Gillespie, of NPBHS.
