The field for the $50,000 Interprovincial Challenge 1600m at the Taranaki Racing Club's meeting at New Plymouth's Pukekura Raceway on Saturday has been finalised.

The field is: Northland - Uncle Shayne; Auckland - The Flying Affair; Thames Valley - The Raconteur; Bay of Plenty - Bruce Almighty; Waikato - Lady Chaparral; King Country - Whoshe; Hawke's Bay - Thrive; Taranaki - Midnight Van Damme; Wanganui - Thatz David; Manawatu - Dubai Belle; Horowhenua - Pero; Wellington - Kalgoorlie Bomber; Canterbury - Skirmish; Southland - Smartly.

Because of a trainer's wish to run his horse in the consolation, Otago will not have a representative in the Interprovincial Challenge.

The highest-rated horses from each province were picked.

Thrive will run for Hawke's Bay where he is owned, while Pero will run for Horowhenua.

One of the likely favourites, the Matamata-trained Smartly, will run in the Southland colours.

Will Aaron Cruden's omission hurt or help the All Blacks?

Hurt - he needs as much game time as possible.

Help - finally Beauden Barrett will get a proper run.

Hmmm - no biggie, just a temporary hitch.

Who is Cruden? I support the All Whites.
